Dr. Micheal Mooney - 40 hours

Shadowed with Dr. Mooney in the operating room and in the outpatient clinic. Observed craniotomy procedures for meningioma resection, and spinal decompressions. Observed one case that took 7 hours where a patient had Klippel-Feil Syndrome (KFS), which is characterized by an abnormal fusion of cervical vertebrae. KFS can lead to a chiari malformation, which is when part of the cerebellum compresses the spinal canal, so the goal of the surgery was to decompress the cervical spinal cord.

Observed procedures including knee and hip arthroplasties, gaining insight into surgical techniques and patient care during joint replacement surgeries. Attended clinic visits with patients, learning about pre-operative assessments, post-operative care, and the management of musculoskeletal conditions.
